Meghan Markle Reportedly Refused Service By ‘Certain Members Of Staff’ At Cotswolds Pub In Shock Frosty Reception

Meghan Markle‘s return to Britain may have given her and her family a chance to begin a new chapter, but settling back into life in the UK has not been entirely smooth.

Since making the Cotswolds their new base after years in the U.S., he Duchess of Sussex and her husband, Prince Harry, have attracted plenty of attention from locals and royal watchers alike.

Now, fresh claims about their early experiences suggest Meghan Markle and Harry’s homecoming may be facing more pushback than expected.

Meghan Markle’s Cotswolds Homecoming Has Reportedly Been Far From Welcoming

Meghan has already been spotted twice at The Three Horseshoes in Asthall, near Burford. One visit was with Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi, while another saw the Duchess spending time with her close friend Kelly Zajfen, who later thanked locals for being “so loving to her friend.”

However, a new Oxford Mail report claims that some staff refused to serve Meghan when she arrived at The Three Horseshoes pub, where she was seen “chatting and laughing.”

“Certain members of staff at The Three Horseshoes have reportedly refused to serve Meghan,” the report stated, per News24.

Journalist Paula Froelich also gave a similar account of Meghan’s reception at the popular pub. She alleged that several members of staff did not want to wait on the duchess and her companions.

“They not only ignored them, but there were several staffers at the Three Horseshoes pub that refused to serve them,” Froelich claimed while speaking to royal reporter Tom Sykes. She added that “somebody else had to serve them.”

Froelich’s claims have, however, not been confirmed by the pub, but they paint a much frostier picture than the warm local reception previously described by Zajfen.

The Sussexes Are Told A Royal Apology May Be Their Only Way Forward

Beyond the alleged encounter at the pub, royal expert Sykes argued that Harry and Meghan could face a larger challenge at they attempt to rebuild their lives in Britain.

He characterized their homecoming as having “gone incredibly badly by every measure.”

The reporter believes repairing their relationship with the Royal Family could make their return easier. “It’s been a complete mess, and I think the bottom line is that this was never really going to work, and can never work unless there is some form of an apology to the Royal Family,” he said.

Sykes clarified that he was not suggesting the Sussexes needed to make what he called “a full humble-pie” apology.

Instead, he noted that some acknowledgment of the hurt caused by their previous public criticism of the monarchy could provide a starting point.

The Locals Were Said To Be Displeased About Prince Harry And Meghan’s School Decision

The alleged tension has not been limited to Meghan’s experiences while socializing. Froelich also claimed Harry and Meghan upset some parents in the area following a short-lived start for Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet at their first British school.

According to her account, the Sussex children were removed from the private school in Oxford after spending only two days there. The abrupt decision allegedly became a source of frustration and amusement among other parents.

“The parents of the children at their first private school in Oxford were definitely amused and annoyed by their [the Sussexes] shenanigans after they whipped their kids out after just two whole days,” Froelich claimed.

She went even further, noting that “even the regular folks just don’t like them.” Her comments suggest the Sussexes may still have some work to do as they try to establish a comfortable family life within their new community.

The Duchess’s Glimpse Into Their New UK Home Faced Criticism

Harry and Meghan’s attempt to offer a glimpse of their new Cotswolds life also drew criticism after they shared a family video on Instagram in September. The footage contained recognizable geographical details, prompting questions about whether too much information about their surroundings had been revealed.

Royal expert Sykes was particularly critical, calling the decision “an almost unbelievably stupid thing to do.”

He rejected the idea that the couple simply failed to consider that viewers could use visible landmarks to identify the area and went further to suggest that the video was possibly a “twisted stunt” connected to Harry’s continuing push for government-backed security.

“It does seem like they are creating security risks deliberately to bolster the argument that they want armed security,” Sykes claimed, per OK! Magazine.

Royal commentator Alison Boshoff similarly questioned the decision to share identifiable details, arguing that Harry would have previously received advice about protecting his whereabouts.

She said someone would have warned him, “Never disclose that information. Never, because it makes you a target.”

Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Received A Warmer Welcome During Another Local Outing

Despite claims of an uncomfortable reception elsewhere in the Cotswolds, another local outing appeared to provide Harry and Meghan with a considerably warmer experience.

The couple was photographed holding hands while heading into The Falkland Arms for lunch, marking their first photographed outing together in Britain since relocating their family.

The pair kept things casual for the visit. Meghan wore a black sweater, dark pants, white sneakers, and sunglasses, while Harry opted for jeans and a jacket along with a Santa Barbara Fire Department baseball cap.

Their visit also appeared to be relatively low-key. Rather than receiving special treatment, they apparently blended into the pub’s regular atmosphere.

A source from the establishment told The Sun that everyone who visits is treated equally. “Everyone here gets the royal treatment — it doesn’t matter who you are,” the source explained. 

The outing offered a noticeably different picture of the couple’s reception in the neighborhood as they continue settling into their new life in Britain.
