3 Perfect Netflix Films to Watch This Weekend (Oct 10-11)

As Tom Cruise‘s first non-franchise film in almost a decade, and under the Academy Award-winning directorial eye of Alejandro G. Iñárritu, it seemed as if Digger was destined to be a hit. Alas, this couldn’t be further from the truth, as the bonkers new movie flopped in spectacular fashion in its opening weekend, falling behind the popularity of author Colleen Hoover and her latest adaptation, Verity. So, if people aren’t heading to the box office this early October, then what are they watching instead? With that in mind, here’s a look at three movies you should watch this weekend on Netflix.

Disclaimer: These titles are available on US Netflix.

‘Animals’ (2026)

Earlier this year, Ben Affleck joined forces with his long-time collaborator, Matt Damon, on one of Netflix’s biggest original hits of the year, The Rip. Now he’s back on the world’s biggest streamer as the star and director of Animals. The film follows a mayoral candidate as his life is thrown into chaos when his son is kidnapped, and they must uncover secrets to pay the ransom.

Also co-written by Affleck, alongside Billy Ray and Connor O. McIntyre, Animals is sure to be a huge hit on Netflix. Kerry Washington, Steven Yeun, and Gillian Anderson also star in the film, which promises to be a gripping political thriller that will have you glued to the edge of your seat. Animals is also to be released in select theaters this weekend alongside its Netflix debut.

The Group Chat Has Spoken
Your Best Friend Is…

Four Netflix characters, four completely different ways of showing up
for somebody. This is the one who fits how you actually do friendship, and what having them in your
life would be like.

Stranger Things · Netflix · Since 2016

Dustin Henderson

You do not do friendship at half volume, and neither does he.
What you want is somebody who says yes to the plan before you have finished describing the
plan.

  • Dustin is the friend the entire show runs on: loyal past the point of sense,
enthusiastic about everything, and incapable of leaving anybody behind.
  • You have the same instinct. Your friendships are loud, specific and slightly ridiculous,
and they last for decades because of it.
  • He is also the one person who would take your strangest interest completely seriously,
which is far rarer than it sounds.
  • You would have a group chat. It would never once be quiet.

Emily in Paris · Netflix · Since 2020

Emily Cooper

You are the friend who makes things happen, and so is she.
Together you would be mildly exhausting to everyone around you and completely delighted with
yourselves.

  • Emily treats an ordinary Tuesday as something that could be turned into an occasion,
which is either the best or the worst quality in a friend depending on your energy
    levels.
  • You share her refusal to sit still. Neither of you has ever accepted a night in when
    something was happening somewhere else.
  • She is far more loyal than people give her credit for. She defends her friends loudly,
publicly, and occasionally before checking the facts.
  • She would post the photo without asking. You would forgive her, because it is a very
    good photo.

Wednesday · Netflix · Since 2022

Wednesday Addams

You have no patience for pleasant lies, and she has no ability to
tell them. What looks like coldness from the outside is the most reliable friendship on this
list.

  • Wednesday never says a kind thing she does not mean, which makes the rare ones count for
    an enormous amount.
  • You would rather be told the truth than be made comfortable. She is constitutionally
incapable of offering you anything else.
  • Underneath all of it she is ferociously protective. She simply refuses to make a
    performance out of caring.
  • Do not expect a birthday message. Do expect her to ruin anyone who wrongs you.

Squid Game · Netflix · 2021–2025

Seong Gi-hun

You look after whoever is having the worst day. So does he. It is
the least strategic way to move through the world and the best possible quality in a friend.

  • Gi-hun is not the strongest player in Squid Game, or the cleverest. He is the one who
keeps choosing to protect somebody else, over and over, at genuine cost to himself.
  • You have the same instinct. You notice who is struggling and you stay with them, long
after anybody would blame you for leaving.
  • He is a flawed friend, and that is part of why it lands. He lets people down, then comes
back and tries again, which is more than most manage.
  • He would give you his last chance and never once mention that he had done it.

‘The Devil Wears Prada’ (2006)

Rotten Tomatoes: 75% | IMDb: 7.0/10

The aforementioned Hoover adaptation, Verity, is topping the box office, so make sure to check out another great Anne Hathaway performance currently streaming on Netflix. As an aspiring journalist, Hathaway’s Andy lands a job as the assistant to the editor-in-chief of a high-fashion magazine, Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep), only for her to fall headfirst into the cutthroat world of fashion.

Stanley Tucci and Emily Blunt also star in this iconic comedy-drama that, two decades on, is considered one of the best movies of 2006. Earlier this year, a fashionably late sequel impressed at the box office and was called “a near-perfect blend of nostalgia and newness” in Taylor Gates‘ review for Collider. For endlessly quotable, utterly indulgent drama this weekend, The Devil Wears Prada has you covered.

3

‘Hush’ (2016)

Rotten Tomatoes: 92% | IMDb: 6.6/10

Any list of recommendations this October is incomplete without an option for those wanting to get in the Halloween mood. Ten years after it debuted, don’t miss out on the hugely underrated psychological horror, Hush. Directed by Mike Flanagan and co-written by the horror favorite and his wife, Kate Siegel, the film follows a deaf-mute European-American writer who is hunted in a secluded house by a masked killer.

A simple premise is executed with detail in Hush, as the power of sound in horror is pushed to the extreme. A home invasion story sure to keep you up at night, the film was nominated for several horror-based awards upon release and even features a hidden Easter egg to Flanagan’s Midnight Mass, a gothic miniseries he would make for Netflix several years later. For a creepy, breathless spooky season weekend, Hush has you covered.
