Auckland road cordoned off after hazardous materials found in car

Police have cordoned off a road in Auckland after the discovery of hazardous materials in a car.

The substances were found in a vehicle in Epsom at the intersection of Market Road and Great South Road.

Police searched the car after arresting the driver, who had fled from them about 5pm near the Karaka area.

The driver was caught after spikes were used near Market Road.

Fire and Emergency said its crews have left the scene and the area has been rendered safe.

Police had asked motorists to avoid the area.
