American Academy of Pediatrics calls for nationwide ban of raw milk

The leading organization responsible for children’s health is calling for a nationwide ban on the sale of raw milk, and raw milk products, because of its propensity to be contaminated with foodborne bacteria, parasites and viruses.
The American Academy of Pediatrics also says arguments for the nutritive benefits of raw milk, sometimes referred to as fresh milk, are not founded in science.
“Reasons for the continued burden of disease related to unpasteurized milk or milk products are primarily related to misinformation regarding purported benefits and underestimation of risk,” the Academy reports in a scientific review of raw milk.
